You should show up with a guitar. Try calling your instructor for advice before your lesson and get some tips. Also when you go to a music shop the people who work there are usually pretty knowledgeable and can help you get fitted with the right one for you. There’s lots of options so it’s important to ask lots of questions just like you’re doing now!
good luck with your first lesson!

Okay.
You should show up WITH a guitar, first of all.
But what matters more is that the guitar you buy is COMFORTABLE.
Is it easy to play?
Can you slide your fingers up and down the frets with ease?
It all depends on you.
You could get the “best guitar in the world” listening to other people, but it may not be “the one.”
Go to wherever you’re planning on buying a guitar and try them out.
That’s the only way you can determine if you the guitar is worth the money, time and effort.

You should take a guitar to your first lesson. You might call your teacher in advance and ask for a recommendation. I would get a Fender.
